Our organisation was set up initially to provide relief
to those victims who had sustained injuries requiring
plastic surgery in the aftermath of the earthquake on
the 8th of October 2005, which affected the North West
Frontier Province and Kashmir in Pakistan.
The co-founders of the organisation visited Pakistan in
October 2005 to provide initial surgical care and relief
of those victims requiring Plastic Reconstructive Surgery.
During the visit it was realised that the injuries sustained
by many of these people would require multiple operations
over a long period of time to reconstruct the deformities
that had occurred as a result of trauma.

Many of the victims had multiple fractures
with gross soft tissue damage. Others had sustained horrific
burns resulting in shocking deformities. Countless had
lost limbs that required refashioning of stumps so that
prosthesis can be fitted at a later stage.
On subsequent visits to the affected areas the co-founders
have negotiated a facility in Lady Reading Post Graduate
Medical Institute, Peshawar, North West Frontier Province,
Pakistan to provide the necessary surgery, treatment and
care to those peoples affected and requiring Plastic reconstructive
Surgery.
The twenty-bedded Plastic Surgery/Reconstructive/Burns
Unit is in the process of being established to provide
such care to those affected. This has been made possible
with the support of the Health Secretary of the NWFP,
in Pakistan, The aim is to have the unit commissioned
and up and running by October 2006.
The founders along with colleagues, who have volunteered
their expertise and services, intend to return to Pakistan
so that the unit can be functional.
It is the intention of the founders to source and provide
the equipment necessary equipment to facilitate the work.
This is now well underway and has been supported by Ayrshire
and Arran Health Board and another 15 Health Boards in
Scotland who have donated monies and obsolete equipment
to start up the facility.
At present the organisation has received approximately
£250.000/- in donated medical supplies which will
be shipped out to Pakistan along with donated hospital
equipment and surgical instruments etc so that the project
can go ahead.
